We opened in 1994 as part of a loosely affiliated group of restaurants in Atlanta, Washington, Charleston, Aspen and San Diego. Lacking the wherewithal to actually franchise the businesses, the friendly group of owners spun off their various Acmes and many were eventually sold.
ACME Annapolis remains the only ACME still operating. But before ACME arrived, 163 Main Street was home to the legendary Pete's Pool Hall. You can't throw a stick in downtown Annapolis without hitting someone who skipped school to shoot pool at Pete's.
Pete and Helen Palaigos opened Pete's Pool Hall when Pete returned from service in WWII as an honored veteran of the D-day invasion and the great liberation that followed. They operated the business with great success through five decades and in 1986 converted the building into a restaurant called Pete's Place.
They retired in 1994 when they sold the business. They are still revered in Annapolis as generations of Naval Academy Grads return annually to spin tales of their days in Pete's Pool Hall.
